In this week’s Recruiting Blog, Coach Dan Heefner from Dallas Baptist University shares what his staff is looking for when recruiting players.

The first thing they look at: your grades.  If they don’t see good enough grades to get in their university, they won’t look at you any further.

Once they have determined that you have the grades to play at their school, the best way to show off your skills according to Coach Heefner is to make a video.  It doesn’t need to be professionally done, you just need to have decent quality so they can see all your skills: hitting, running, and fielding/throwing.

Another thing to do is to include some references (someone like a pro scout who is seen you play and vouch for your abilities).

They don’t really pay attention to high school stats because the level of competition in your league is tough to gauge for them, so you don’t need to worry about mentioning them in your “baseball resume”.
