In today’s post, we are joined by former Toronto Blue Jay and current Cleveland Indian’s pitcher: Steve Delabar. Delabar has one of the best stories you’ll hear in the game today.
Steve gives us the shorter version of this incredible story: going from an assistant high school baseball coach/substitute teacher to big league pitcher.
Steve started doing a velocity arm care program with his kids and noticed he was throwing harder. He eventually got a tryout with the Mariners, got signed, and worked his way up to the major leagues with the Mariners.
Steve says to always stay focused; you will have some bumps along the road but those will make you better in the long run.
His mindset when he was given that second chance at pro ball was simple: he was happy and fortunate to be there. He knew he had nothing to lose, so all he focused on was competing and doing his best.
