In this video, Illinois Head Coach Dan Hartleb talks about what he looks for when recruiting high school players. Coach Hartleb says that on field performance is only a small portion of what he is looking for.
Do they respect the game? Do they respect everyone around them? A lot of times Coach even shows up to games without Illinois gear on! He likes to blend in and gather information from different parents without revealing that he is recruiting a particular player.
He tries to leave no stone unturned: he talks to everyone from teachers to high school coaches to summer coaches to try and gain as much perspective on a certain player as possible.
Moral of the story guys: play hard no matter what! You never know who’s watching.
