What does it mean to have a balanced swing?  Different baseball people will probably give you different answers, but today we are talking specifically about being in a balanced position after a hitter strides. There are some coaches that are big on keeping the hitter’s weight on their back leg, others say 60/40, and still others say a 50/50 weight distribution is best. The goal of today’s article isn’t to end this discussion once and for all, but instead to present the perspective of some smart baseball minds in the game today.

I recently met and worked out with Twins’ Dominican prospect, Victor Arias.  After two hours of hitting, fielding and running, we sat down to talk.  I wanted to know what, if anything, was the first thing the Twins’ coaches changed about his swing when he signed with them.  His answer is highlighted in the quick video below.  The short answer?  The Twins coached him into a more balanced position following his stride instead of having most of his weight on his back leg as he had been taught since an early age.
